Changes in company regulations – does your website comply?

Companies and limited liability partnerships could theoretically face fines for failing to include company addresses and registration details on their websites and official emails, following amendments to the Companies Act that came into effect on 1 January 2007.

These changes state that all company websites must now show in legible lettering:

  • Its place of registration
  • Registered number
  • Its registered office address
  • And if a company is being wound up; that fact
  • VAT number

Company emails are also subject to these new requirements if they are used instead of a paper equivalent covered by the recent company business stationery/translation changes. This relates to:

  • All it's bills of parcels, invoices, receipts and letters of credit
  • All the company's business letters, order forms
  • All bills of exchange, promissory notes, endorsements, cheques and orders for money or goods purporting to be signed by, or on behalf of, the company
  • All its notices and other official publications
